Inclusive living
Inclusive living is the foundation, the home where no one is left out, the model of care where ability and disability are part of the normal life of the family. Our goal is to make the “Best Practices of Shishur Sevay” the standard of care in India.
Ichche Dana Inclusive School
Ichche Dana Inclusive School, in-house, was established to meet the particular needs of this very vulnerable population within ShishurSevay. Now it is expanding into the local community.
Children’s Smart Centre
Children’s Smart Centre in our community, a free inclusive play school with activity-based learning for 2 to 4 year olds underprivileged children to prepare them for schooling. Our girls, including the ones with disabilities, will be teaching.
Tuni Harrison Centre for Research, Training and Advocacy
Shishur Sevay’s success came with much trial and error. But the answers and this success need to be described in quantified and qualified ways so the path is easier for others. At the same time, the isolation of the disabled community and the demeaning of orphans need to be challenged. For this we must be advocates.
The Idea – De-institutionalization of orphan and disabled children and creation of inclusive family style group homes. Shishur Sevay is the best practices model of inclusive non-institutional care for lost and abandoned girls, some with profound disabilities, all of whom had already been rejected for adoption.
